He was the only university graduate (in 1991) who chose his career as a guide in the tourism industry. Has trekked most corners of Bhutan and climbed several trekking peaks. He did his practical mountain management courses in Chamonix, France. His pride is his passion for Bhutan’s culture and ecology. His book, “Seeing with the Third Eye, Growing up with Grandma in Rural Bhutan”, depicts his interest in local beliefs.
In 2007, Sangay became a partner at Etho Metho Tours & Treks Pvt. Ltd. which is one of Bhutan’s oldest and well managed tour companies. Wild Bhutan is a specialised division of Etho Metho Tours that focuses on animist traditions and its relations to the ecology. Sangay has a great passion for such trips. He is a self converted naturalist, a born Buddhist and a practising animist. A great fan of the Deep Ecology philosophy, Sangay creates trips with a purpose. Environmental concerns are a priority on these trips.
Sangay got much of his ecological inspirations from His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck (the Fourth King of Bhutan), the late Rachel Carson of “Silent Spring” fame, Al Gore, David Suzuki and many more.
